Brian: Unplugged

I was on a lovely vacation last week, and I did something daring.  Ok, not jump out of an airplane or run with the bulls daring (I like my life too much for that).  I unplugged.  I went off line and off the grid for a good portion of my week.  There  was no internet access available and my phone did not get a signal.  I drank amazing coffee from a plunger pot.  I watched movies, I read books, and I wrote.  It’s been a very long time since I got to write just for me, and it was amazing.

Did I mention the coffee?  Here’s the view I had every day while sipping my coffee…

This was just what I needed for so many reasons.  One, I needed to slow down.  I am like a hummingbird (a very cool hummingbird with racing stripes or something, but a hummingbird nonetheless) always in motion and doing ten thousand things at once*  I did one thing at a time.  I had peace, I had quiet.  I was unplugged.

Two, I wanted to try something different.  I like my constant connection, but life is sometimes simpler without all of that external stimuli.

Finally, I just wanted to sit and enjoy coffee by a spectacular view.

Speaking of views, here was my view when I was in Vancouver, BC a few days before I went unplugged. Coffee with a few=total goodness.

So, Brian - are you going to spill that secret unplugged location? It looks beautiful.

I did the same thing last weekend. I "unplugged" and hit the mountains for one last camping trip before fall really sets it. There are so many distractions with phones, emails, Twitter, Facebook and blogs it's good to take a break...once in awhile. I know when I get back to them I appreciate it more anyway.

@Susan- It is called Lost Lake and it is located in Shelton, WA. I'm very fortunate to have access to a little rustic cabin there.

@Jenny- I completely agree with you. I love all of the ways to stay connected, but sometimes a break is good for the mind and helps you gain a new appreciation!
