In the GreenLane

On January 27, 2010, GreenLane hosted their one year anniversary party at the Gateway branch of Northwest Community.  As one of your intrepid bloggers, I was on hand to report on the who’s who and the what’s what.

Before I get into the details of the the delightful do, I want to give you some background on GL.  I already told you that GreenLane came into being a year ago, but did you know what their purpose is?  Well, just in case you didn’t know, I am going to tell you.  This organization is all about providing education, resources, networking and marketing for sustainability.  With the strong presence of sustainable companies in Lane County, this group really seems like a good fit for how we do business.  And judging by the turnout at the event, many others agree.

The party had many draws.  One of the main draws for me (you know I believe in open and honest communication with all of you) would have to be the tasty morsels provided by Wild Duck Catering.  The noshes included spanikopita and chicken skewers for the warm nibbles, as well as some pita platters, fruits and vegetable and (my kryptonite) a cheese platter.  There was self serve food as well as tasty treats served by our very own blogger extraordinaire Jen and one of NWCU’s Marketing Geniuses, Marne*.

As you all know, when you eat, you need something to wash it down, so the good folks at Ninkasi and Oakshire (both brewing companies for those in the know) provided the liquid refreshment.

But, before you think it is all food and drink, let me tell you this.  There were plenty of local businesses on hand to talk about their sustainable practices and educate those people, like me, who might not know  what these businesses do.     Or, even what they are for that matter.  I had the chance to talk to a few of these business owners, and a few even shared their story on video, which will be posted on Facebook.

Matt Purvis, VP of Marketing at NWCU (and another genius*- I don’t play favorites) acted as the gracious host, introduced the new Launch Business Checking, and also gave away a very cool Kodak Zi6 HD video camera.  Which also happens to be the new official digital tool for TSNW to capture those (I guess I can really say it now without copyright infringement) Kodak moments.

After a few guest speakers talked to the crowd and the new year’s board was announced for GreenLane (for more info on that, I would check out their afore-hyperlinked website), the very talented Paul Prince played mood music.

The event was scheduled to end promptly at 8pm, but the crowd still lingered a bit as I was wrapping things up to head home.  The mood was festive, and I would deem the party a success!

Like I said earlier, I have posted  some video (and more pictures too!) on That’s So Northwest’s Facebook page.  Check them out and let me know what you think!
