I’m not a big fan of the whole New Year’s Resolution thing because then it just feels like I am going along with the crowd. However, the fiscal new year just started for many (and this is a blog powered by a credit union after all), and now just seemed to be a good time to set some goals, I mean resolutions. However, since most people don’t follow the fiscal calendar, for peace of mind, let’s just refer to this as mid year. Mid Year’s Resolution sounds much nicer than Brian needs to get a handle on things and get organized with everything.
I know- shocking that I could get all rambly or lose focus. Is rambly even a word?
With all of the goal setting and resolutions in my head, I felt it was important for you to be able to see what I’m working on, and I could maybe keep you all up to date and maybe inspire a reader or two. Provided I don’t completely fall on my face at which point I will slink into the corner and we will never talk about this again. Deal?
My main goal is to get more organized. I used to be hyper organized, but my responsibilities have grown in a way that I can no longer rely on the power of memory to keep track of all of my obligations. Enter the iPhone. I have been a BlackBerry user for a few years now and I am still a fan, but the iPhone is going to take my organization skills to new heights. I can color code my calendar. How cool is that? The fact that I can quickly glance at my daily schedule and know if I need to be in the office, out of the office, wish someone a birthday, be on a telephone meeting, attend training or be sure to blog. This makes me- well, not giddy- but it makes me feel more in control. Now, I know that smart phones all have calendars, but I can actually read this screen and I dig on the color coding.
I also want to get back into an exercise routine. After all, summer is outdoor weather and I can’t hide under layers of clothes. Thanks to the miracle of the iPhone App Store, I can download all sorts of tools to keep me on the path to fitness. There’s Six Pack App with over 100 exercises that I can do, or Running Trainer Lite to track my running and see my progress. I can use FitnessPlan to track my workouts and see what I have or have not been doing. These apps are all free (my frugal nature is very pleased by this) and it won’t yell at me like the Wii Fit does.
Next, I am working on saying no. Yes, I know that Nancy Reagan taught all of us of a certain age how to say no on Diff’rent Strokes, but this is an important lesson that needs to be re-learned. I struggle with it, as you can tell from my inability to get organized. It’s because I keep saying yes! Not that I want to be that persnickety person and all of that. It is about finding that balance. I’m not sure how I will achieve that yet, but I am sure my iPhone can help with that. It does everything else for me.
Finally, I want to have more fun. It’s summer in the NW and there is all sorts of good stuff to do. That’s where you come in. What is hip, healthy and happening around here? After all, you don’t want any more of these rambly posts do you?
Please note: I was not paid a fee by Apple to endorse their ridiculously famous product.
