Taking the Plunge

coffee cup You may have figured out that those of us in TSNW headquarters love coffee.  After all, coffee is a major player in NW culture and we are all about the NW.  Well, as a consummate coffee consumer, I have all of the accoutrements to make a mean cuppa joe.  However, I have been bad about using them, because my trusty coffee maker works the magic every morning to bring me into the land of the living.

Recently, I ran out of coffee filters (I would use a reusable coffee filter but they don’t make them for my machine-guilty green conscience- had to justify my reasoning), so I dusted off my trusty plunger pot aka french press and rediscovered the joy of fresh pressed coffee.

I had forgotten the taste sensation of the coffee from a plunger pot.  It’s like the Oregon Symphony was playing while some break dancers busted a move and the hottest Hollywood blockbuster played all on my tongue at the same time.  For real.  I had forgotten the bliss of direct contact between the water and the grounds with no paper catching all of the oils and thus keeping them from my tongue.

I can’t believe I had forgotten how tasty plunger pot coffee could be. (Bad Brian!) In fact, I’m thinking of getting a second one for the office.  That way I can always enjoy the deliciousness.

Have you ever had coffee from a french press?  What did you think?

I only drink french press if I can help it! I get the locally roasted coffee and have my french press ready to go in the morning next to my water boiling-thingy and then I pour it in the thermos and enjoy it all day! I can't stand the taste of burnt coffee!!!

I've also found that this is one of the best ways to make camping coffee. :)

I love love love French Press. It is the way to go and it's pretty green too!

Erin, I totally agree that French Press is THE required equipment for Camp Coffee. I have a press that permanently lives in the camp gear.
