It was the game of the year. #5 ranked USC Trojans to take on the #10 ranked Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium. USC was there to defend their title, Oregon was ready to take a stand. In a 47 to 20 victory, the Ducks made it known, they are the real deal.
Oregon is one of few states that doesn’t have an NFL to support, which makes most of us very passionate about our
College teams. The fans are die-hard, they’ll sit in the blistering heat or the freezing cold, ready to rally around their boys on the turf. “There’s just something about Autzen, there’s no other place like it! I’ve had season tickets for eight years now,” says one fan, “and I’ve never missed a game.”
To add to the excitement of Saturday’s game, ESPN’s College
GameDay paid Eugene a visit. Fans began to rally in the wee hours of the morning, totally pumped for the 7am air time. With kickoff not until 5pm Saturday evening, it made for a very long day of tailgating. “I got here at three this morning,” says a freshman student, “it was a little cold, but I would do it again!”
There’s been a lot of buzz about Oregon in the past few days- will they be headed to the Rose Bowl? Only time will tell. I can’t wait to see where they go from here! In the words of former Quarterback, Dennis Dixon, who attended Saturday’s game, “Go Ducks!”
