My goal (in and outside of this blog) is to share the beauty, the challenge, and the wonder of the Northwest with all of you beyond the pages of the magazines. I want you to get out and experience the Northwest. I want you to go further and test yourself on the trails, lakes and rivers in your area. Because I want this so bad I’m going to share some places that are near and dear to me. I hope that you too will share your places with me. Beyond sharing the places with each other I want to share the experience. Whether it’s reading about my experience or going out and creating your own we are in this together. What did you bring in with you to help cut back on the litter? What took your breath away? How was the trail, campsite, lake? What mess did you find that broke your heart? What can we all do to preserve this beauty for our future generations but still enjoy it today? That’s what I want to get out of this.
I want to be able to figure out how to share the outdoors but still keep it the outdoors. How can we share with each other and trust that our cherished places won’t get exploited? The truth is that no matter how hard we try to keep our beloved trails quiet and to ourselves they deserve more than that and our fellow outdoor enthusiasts deserve more than that. There will always be the person in the movie theater talking. There will always be the person at the Little League game yelling at the coaches or referees. There will always be the person who will toss their fast food garbage out their car window while driving down the road. But we will still go to movies and laugh and cry. We will still cheer on our kiddos during the game and we will still drive down the road and stop to pick up their mess. It’s what makes us Northwesterners and we are more than proud of that.
Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
