We here at That’s So Northwest, and thusly at Northwest Community Credit Union, are always striving to define what and who qualifies as “So Northwest.” One person we know fits this bill for certain is one of our very own employees, Erin. Erin is a Northwest girl through and through as she rides her bike in the rain to work and hip-chucks her way to “Jammer of the Year 2009” with the Andromedolls and the Emerald City Rollergirls. We are very proud of our Erin and are thrilled to support her and the other “Dolls” on the flat track.

In light of this fact I have in my possession 2 tickets to the upcoming derby bout at the Lane County Fairgrounds on January 30^th. It should be quite a show for all ages to enjoy, I highly recommend it and have before (here). I’m not just giving these puppies away, though, where’s the fun in that? Nope, you have to earn them and here is how you do so:

• Nominate someone who you think defines the term “So Northwest.”
• Do so by writing a short (250 word max please) blurb about this person or…
• If you are feeling really crafty, make a video, upload it to YouTube and send us the link.  (One of the bloggers wants to see people on skates, so there’s a free hint)
• You are free to express this in whatever medium you so choose, of course, those are just the two I am recommending as a starting-off point.
• These must be received by next Tuesday the 26th at 5pm so we have enough time to find a winner, which we will announce on the following Wednesday.
• The winner will be chosen by our panel of celebrity judges so it will be nice and fair.

So come on people and let’s hear all about your friends, family or even yourselves…who is the most Northwest of them all?

It has been quite a year, hasn’t it?  Here are some of the many, many memorable moments…

Marie!  Excellent job!  Thank you to all who shared your amazing poems with us.  My 15 celebrity judges had a very hard time picking their favorite, commenting on how impressive they all were.  Ten out of the fifteen chose the following, so congratulations Marie!  Enjoy the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

For my Niece

You can be whatever you want for Halloween,

Frankenstein, Chuck Norris, or even a Prom Queen.

We’ll dance door to door knocking for treats,

While Auntie updates her status with tweets.

The Haunted House is our next stop,

You’ll scream so loud my ears will pop.

It won’t be as scary as the Corn Maze,

But the fog machines will leave you in a haze.

Just when you think we’ve had enough fun,

I will tell you our night has just begun.

We’ll stay in our Costumes for extra delight,

Watching scary movies that will give us Fright.

Eating our treats and screaming frantically in terror,

My Goosebumps liven and I’ll be on the edge of my chair.

After Halloween the Movie we will be too afraid to sleep,

Seeing Michael Meyers face when counting every little sheep.

You’ll have a sore tummy when you wake up the next day,

Remembering our fun night will take the candy pains away.

Magical nights like this will bring a smile to your face,

They will be etched in memories you just can’t erase.

Thinking about it I shiver in anticipation and fear,

This is why Halloween is my favorite time of year.
