(in alphabetical order)

Amber~

Ode to Alaskan Autumn

Tundra turns crimson.

Behold a dying fire.

Light fades before day is done.

Frost blankets the rocky ground

In a frigid kiss.

Northern Autumn bids welcome

The season of night.

Hannah~

Falling Endlessly

Leaves hit the earth so softly

Where they will slumber

Jefrey~

Once upon a midnight dreary...

No, no, no. That has already been used.

It was a dark and stormy night...

Again, been done.

How 'bout this...?

In the months of Fall,

When I think I seen it all;

Along comes a day,

That takes my breath away.

The night before was cold,

To get out of bed, I must be bold.

When my feet touch the floor,

I crawl back in bed for a little more.

As I brave the morning,

My mind screams out a warning!

Beware, Beware, Beware!

As I look out the window and stare.

All is calm and all is bright,

Why should this day give me a fright?

Once more I desire,

To stay by the fire.

I dress fairly warm in my clothes,

Long pants, a jacket, and socks for my toes.

I prepare for the walk to work,

The smile becomes a smirk.

I step out with door without a glance,

To brave the day, I will chance.

Once more into the fray,

But my breath is suddenly taken away.

Oh brr, oh drat!

I forgot my hat.

L. Soprano~

Sunshine on my face

Cool wind breezing through my hair

Crispy leaves falling

Marie~

Fall air smells so brisk,

Cooling my face as I walk,

Sipping warm Coffee...

Trust me when I say this was a hard decision to make, but these five stood out the brightest to my panel of judges.  Now each of these poets has one more chance to dazzle us with their literary skills by this Friday and win Two Free Tickets to an amazing Halloween show!  Good luck!

For my Niece

You can be whatever you want for Halloween,

Frankenstein, Chuck Norris, or even a Prom Queen.

We’ll dance door to door knocking for treats,

While Auntie updates her status with tweets.

The Haunted House is our next stop,

You’ll scream so loud my ears will pop.

It won’t be as scary as the Corn Maze,

But the fog machines will leave you in a haze.

Just when you think we’ve had enough fun,

I will tell you our night has just begun.

We’ll stay in our Costumes for extra delight,

Watching scary movies that will give us Fright.

Eating our treats and screaming frantically in terror,

My Goosebumps liven and I’ll be on the edge of my chair.

After Halloween the Movie we will be too afraid to sleep,

Seeing Michael Meyers face when counting every little sheep.

You’ll have a sore tummy when you wake up the next day,

Remembering our fun night will take the candy pains away.

Magical nights like this will bring a smile to your face,

They will be etched in memories you just can’t erase.

Thinking about it I shiver in anticipation and fear,

This is why Halloween is my favorite time of year.

Orange, Yellow, Red,

Pumpkins, Football, and Rain boots,

Describe Fall Magic

Second entry: (BTW fabulous poems everyone!)

The sun is setting on this crispy autumn day,

Bright colors of orange are heading my way.

The wind is roaring as it comes to greet,

Brown leaves are crunching underneath my feet.

Everything is changing all around,

Pumpkins are plump above the ground.

I head inside, and feel the heat...

The aroma of coco smells so sweet.

I cozy up with a blanket, and close my eyes...

Dreaming of bright stars that fill the skies.

Green turned to glimmering gold,

Fiery, leaves of Autumn fell.

Winds begun to blow so bold,

Sounding summers death knell.

The days are crisp, as are the nights,

Rains return to fill the well.

Frost to follow and fill our sights,

A deafening silence that only Autumn can tell.

Autumn falls all around our feet,

With a cold, so cold, that one can smell,

We gather round the kitchens heat,

The darkness, together, we shall quell.

The hunt returns with the beast,

A mid-Autumns ride over hill and dell;

To where we gather for our feast,

Finished with a mighty yell.

The leaves are gone, the snow falling fast;

We've returned to where we dwell.

And by the powers of seasons past,

Winter comes to break Autumns spell.
