Anyone can love the sunny days. It's easy to enjoy blue skies, warm sun and dry ground, but it takes a unique individual to appreciate the rain. Rain isn't as easy or predictable. It isn't a heat lamp or an immobile blanket of snow. Rain is alive; it changes and shifts. Rain doesn't bother to give us warning or concern itself with our schedules or needs. Rain works with the wind and moves however it chooses. It falls straight and hard, it mists softly, it comes in sideways and seems impossible.
It's the rebel of common weather. Rain is the wild condition, the surly sister of sunshine. Rain would be the Bruce Lee of the skies, the kung fu master, the one you never know what to expect from. The rain makes everything wet and clean and new. Feel the muddy squish between your toes on the fresh, wet lawn. Curl up and listen to the falling raindrops on the roof, the ground, tapping on your window asking to be let in. Tom Robbins said the rain turns you inward and makes you introspective. It calms and satiates, it makes you think and ponder. Rain is the independent, free thinker; the willful brat of weather. It can torment you while making you smile.
In honor of our first really wet and rainy Fall day here in Eugene, I would like to share with all of you this amazing video of…yup…the sounds of rain. Enjoy.
