High time for another Northwest EATS! don't you think?
This time we focused on Eugene, Oregon. I've asked the TSNW team and the Marketing Department of Northwest Community to share their preferred dining establishments with all of us. Bon Appetit!
Coffee
Brian - " Starbucks, for consistency's sake!"
Jen - "Starbucks….duh!".
Kristin - "The Beanery, excellent coffee, great atmosphere and tasty biscotti!".
Matt - Full City on Pearl St. Locally owned. Great coffee.
Marne - Starbucks. "I really try to spend my limited cash at locally-owned places as much as possible, but Starbuck’s is the exception. I enjoy Starbuck’s Americanos because they’re weaker (and cheaper) than regular coffee and the taste is consistent no matter what city I’m in.".
Melanie - "I think I’ll have to go with Allann Brothers on 5th St. down town as my all-time favorite. It’s an interesting old building and is a great meeting place. Not to mention, Down to Earth Garden is right next door.".
Thea- Perugino "They have a little bit of everything and they do it well! WiFi hotspot and charming place to hang out."
Breakfast
Brian - "Midtown Marketplace for yummy Chevre omelet.".
Deanna - McKenzie Cafe "It's small but very quaint, excellent food.".
Dwight - The Pump Cafe
Jen - "GJ’s Family Restaurant. They have the biggest omelet’s ever and the price is SO great! Also, it’s a true mom & pops restaurant. He does the cookin’ and she’s the waitress!".
Kristin - "I like to go to the Midtown Marketplace every weekend for breakfast. Their eggs Benedict is amazing and their French toast is out of this world.".
Marne - "Cornucopia on West 17th is the place to be for affordable but generous breakfasts. They’re very popular on weekend mornings and the wait can be a bit long, but the service is fast and always friendly.".
Melanie - "The Glenwood on Willamette Street takes the cake. They have a great breakfast platter and yummy hot almond milk. I like to sit outside on the patio on sunny mornings.".
Thea- "I agree with Melanie about The Glenwood, however I most often haunt the one near the UO campus. For a funky Eugene experience and good food, check out The Keystone Cafe. They specialize in the vegetarian experience. Kris is on to something amazing with Midtown Marketplace. I love the Greek Scramble.".
Tyler- Off the Waffle.
Lunch
Brian - "Hop Valley They have a great grilled veggie sandwich.".
Dwight - Mookies Northwest Grill Pasta, Salads, All American
Jen - "Café Yumm! Their Yumm bowls are SO delicious and all fresh ingredients!".
Holli - "Chapala’s- their menu is filled with several amazing dishes, I also ADORE Mexican food!!".
Kristin - "Tasty Thai Campus has the most scrumptious yellow curry in my opinion. I love, love, love Thai food and yellow curry over brown rice is my favorite.".
Matt - "Laughing Planet. Simple, tasty, fresh and local.".
Marne - "Hop Valley has great salads, burgers, sandwiches, steaks and a variety of uniquely Northwest dishes. They use local and healthy ingredients whenever possible and their in-house beers are usually top-notch.".
Melanie - "Govinda’s Vegetarian Buffet on River Road. It’s like heaven on earth… their food feeds the body and soul.".
Thea- "Alexander's Great Falafel. It's a food cart - but let me tell you - it is it good. . Cafe Yumm is just that - yummy! It's a local institution. I always take my out of town guests to Cafe Yumm. Fisherman's Market hands down the best fish taco and clam chowder in town.".
Tyler - Sy's Pizza, The Sub Shop, McMenamins
Dinner
Brian - "Hacienda Amigo Mio has great food, they have not disappointed me yet. Although, Ciao Pizza right next door has some yum factor going on as well.".
Deanna - Excelsior Inn Ristorainte "Excellent Italian food, great steak!".
Dwight - A Better Way To Go - Mediterranean Style (471 South A Street, Springfield, Oregon) Bakers Dozen - Killer Clam Chowder on Fridays (2787 Olympic Street Springfield, Oregon), Turtles Bar Grill
Holli - "Johnny Oceans Grille – the owner, Sean, is absolutely awesome, the food is delicious and the service is amazing!".
Jen - "Beppe and Gianni’s Voted Eugene’s Best Italian restaurant 8 years in a row! The atmosphere and food are to die for!".
Kristin - "The Vintage without a doubt. I love that place and it is right by my house. Amazing fondue, crepes, salads, wine…so good.".
Matt - "Marche the classic Northwest regional dining experience. They do food well. The Rabbit Bistro and Bar the polar opposite of the Olive Garden. The food, the drinks, and the wine list are distinctive. Adam's Place a great place to meet with friends for good food and drink. Be sure to say "Hi" to Adam when you are there, tell him That's So Northwest sent you.".
Marne - "Café LN (also known as “Lucky Noodle”) has a great selection of fresh and different European/Asian dishes with distinctly local ingredients. There are nicer (as in, spendier) places to eat in Eugene but the atmosphere and 5th Street location are great; plus, the bar area is great for dining and not overly loud. Service can be slow, but the wait is almost always worth it.".
Melanie - "Aiyara Thai Café. Authentic, delicious Thai food and lots of comfy space, also makes for a great meeting place.".
Thea- "Izumi Sushi and Grill the best sushi in town. For traditional Greek and Indian food, Poppi's Anatolia is the place to go. Try their hibiscus tea. Delish! Ta Ra Rin is amazing Thai food. I adore their Tom Kha Soup with Shrimp. mmmm! I would be remiss if I didn't mention Papa's Soul Food Kitchen is the down home cookin' your Granny used to make. Or maybe just my Granny. At any rate - the food and experience are worth the trip. I second Matt's suggestion of The Rabbit. Amazing seasonal, delicious food that is crafted to perfection. It even says on the menu, "No Substitutions Allowed" - really at The Rabbit, it would be an insult.".
Tyler - Agate Alley, Cornucopia
Dessert
Brian - "I’m crazy enough, I do not need to add sugar.". We know Brian!
Holli - "Sweet Life - Cheesecake Tartlets. Need I say more?".
Jen - "Julia’s Wine Shop & Wine Bar . They feature only Oregon wines and while I don’t really have a sweet tooth I do love a good cheese plate!".
Kristin - "Sweet Life by far. They make the most amazing vegan mousse…it is to die for.".
Marne - "I’m not a dessert kind of person, but Prince Puckler’s fits the bill nicely when I want something fresh, sweet and local. I recommend their sorbet selection if you want to skip the milk fat.".
Matt - "Just because Sweet Life gets all the attention, don't forget about Metropol Bakery. They have great Opera Cookies and baked goods.".
Melanie - "Nothing compares to Sweet Life Patisserie on Blair. They even have vegan goodies that are just as sinful as any of their non-vegan offerings.".
Thea - "Honestly, when it comes to dessert, Sweet Life Patisserie is the place to be.".
Tyler - Sweet Life
